The MotoGP paddock was hit with major news as Alex Marquez officially confirmed a major decision regarding his physical condition. The Gresini Racing star announced that he will skip next weekend's race in Qatar to undergo surgery in Madrid on Monday.
This crucial decision comes as a direct consequence of the persistent pain in his right shoulder, which stems from a massive high-speed crash during the Catalan Grand Prix back in May. The younger Marquez has been forced to grit his teeth and rely heavily on painkillers just to survive race weekends.

The announcement was delivered during the official press conference following his stellar third-place podium finish at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia. Despite celebrating a strong result aboard his Ducati Desmosedici, the toll on his body had simply become too high to ignore.
"From the moment that I came back after the Catalonia accident, I suffered a lot with my right shoulder," the Spanish rider stated during the press conference. "And yeah, I decided to take surgery in Madrid tomorrow."
He further elaborated that the medical procedure involves more than just removing the hardware from his collarbone. The primary challenge lies in eliminating severe inflammation and fluid accumulation that has completely drained his muscle strength and prevented any proper training.
"I need to take out the plate from the collarbone, but the main problem I have now is the inflammation. So, it's like two surgeries in one," he explained detailing the extent of the medical intervention.
While cynics might point to the general reluctance of riders facing the grueling triple-header schedule in the Middle East, Alex Marquez insisted that the sheer physical exhaustion of back-to-back-to-back races made it impossible to continue without a proper reset.
"I was suffering a lot with these back-to-back races. So for me, it's impossible to do three in a row. So, I decided to step back a little bit," he added, emphasizing the necessity of the break.
Looking ahead, the Gresini rider aims for a swift recovery with the hope of returning to action at the Portuguese Grand Prix in Portimao, allowing him to properly tackle the final stages of the championship.
