Alex Marquez has been handed a double long lap penalty following his involvement in a chaotic first-lap multi-rider crash during the MotoGP Sprint race at the Mobility Resort Motegi circuit.
The major incident occurred at the third corner of the opening lap when the Spanish rider misjudged his braking zone. His machine clipped the rear of Pedro Acosta's bike, sending both riders sliding into the gravel trap.
Meanwhile, Fabio Di Giannantonio found himself trapped on the outside line and was inevitably collected in the wreckage. While Marquez and Acosta emerged physically unscathed, Di Giannantonio required an ambulance transfer to the medical center for thorough checks.

FIM MotoGP Stewards swiftly investigated the sequence of events and determined that the younger Marquez brother breached competition regulations regarding dangerous riding standards during opening laps.
The resulting sanction dictates that the double long lap penalty must be served during Sunday afternoon's main Grand Prix event at Motegi, significantly altering his tactical approach for the race.
