Alex Marquez has firmly stated that rain played absolutely no part in his costly crash from the lead during the Sepang MotoGP Sprint. Having started from pole position, the Gresini Racing pacesetter controlled the opening stages of the 10-lap Malaysian encounter ahead of Ai Ogura before sliding out at turn 13 on the second lap.

Although intermittent rain fell throughout nearly the entire duration of the Sprint race, the Spanish rider insisted that a minor error on his part was the sole catalyst for the low-side incident. He noted that the extreme heat combined with extremely low grip levels leaves virtually zero margin for error in the premier class.

"I didn’t crash because of the rain; it was a really small mistake," Alex Marquez explained after the Sepang Sprint. "But with this heat and so little grip, it takes next to nothing. Everything was so close to the limit that even the slightest mistake can cost you dearly." He conceded that his earlier success in securing pole position earlier in the day may have led to overconfidence.

Reflecting on the mental approach during the short race, the Gresini rider admitted that he rode with emotion rather than tactical patience. "Honestly, I didn’t expect to crash in that corner. Maybe I was too confident after this morning’s pole position, maybe I was a bit too optimistic. I raced with my heart instead of my head. That’s all," he stated candidly regarding the error that extinguished his victory bid.

Despite shouldering the blame for the mistake, Marquez also highlighted that turns 13 and 14 present the most challenging surface conditions on the Sepang circuit layout as the asphalt continues to break up. Looking ahead to the Grand Prix race, he emphasized the critical need to manage that specific sector of the track with heightened caution to avoid similar pitfalls.
