Drama unfolded at the Malaysian Grand Prix as Alex Marquez delivered a stellar performance to secure pole position and the sprint grid advantage. The Gresini Ducati rider mastered the tricky Sepang conditions to edge out the competition in a fiercely contested qualifying session.
Meanwhile, the Aprilia garage faced a major setback after title contender Jorge Martin officially withdrew from the remainder of the Sepang weekend. A wrist fracture sustained a week prior at Phillip Island proved too severe for the Spaniard to continue pushing on track.
Aprilia team manager Paolo Bonora explained the difficult decision to MotoGP.com, noting that braking forces remained an insurmountable hurdle for the recovering rider during practice.

'His feeling was better, to be honest, compared with yesterday, but he was not able to force in the braking,' Paolo Bonora stated. 'The plan is to come back to Spain as soon as possible and to push on the recovery and to do his best to recover the situation.'
With Martin sidelined, points leader Marc Marquez capitalized on the opportunity by securing a front-row start. He missed out on pole by a mere 0.070 seconds to his younger brother, while KTM's Pedro Acosta rounded out the top three on the grid.
