Aleix Espargaro is preparing for an unexpected return to MotoGP action, acknowledging that stepping back into the premier class after months away will be a massive challenge. The Catalan rider openly admits that the current grid is operating at an incredibly blistering pace.
Espargaro is set to pull on his racing gear once again at Mandalika, stepping in to replace Joan Mir within the factory Honda HRC squad. This sudden comeback arrives under completely different circumstances than what he envisioned when he first decided to step away from full-time competition.
Speaking to DAZN as reported by Motosan.es, the HRC test rider discussed an emotional return filled with both excitement and respect. Having undergone two surgeries earlier this year due to injuries, he confesses that the past year has been far more grueling than it appeared from the outside, with physical discomfort still lingering.

Mir's ongoing absence is the exact reason Espargaro has been called back to the grid. He expressed sadness over the 2020 world champion's difficult situation and hopes his fellow countryman can recover quickly to get the proper send-off he deserves from Honda after years of hard work.
This return certainly was not part of the initial plan, but after months away from the paddock, the unexpected opportunity serves as a chance to come full circle. Following a painful recovery period where walking itself was a struggle, his innate passion for racing ultimately drove him back.
Espargaro does not hide the fact that jumping straight back onto the Honda RC213V will demand peak effort. Having previously tested the 850 cc machine at Mugello under difficult physical constraints, he knows that facing the current MotoGP field in Mandalika will deliver a complete shock to his system.
