Fermin Aldeguer will move to VR46 at the start of MotoGP's 850cc era in 2027, as confirmed by Ducati. The Spaniard's switch marks a crucial step in his career, placing him in a factory-supported seat for the upcoming season.
After two seasons with Gresini, Aldeguer will join Valentino Rossi's team on a factory contract, receiving full backing and official machinery from the Borgo Panigale manufacturer. This puts him on equal footing with factory Ducati riders like Marc Marquez and Pedro Acosta.
The move stems from the long-term agreement Aldeguer signed with Ducati in January 2024. The initial 2+2-year deal guaranteed his place for 2025-2026, with an option for 2027-2028 that was activated in March. Ducati then decided to place him at VR46 as part of its special collaboration with the Tavullia squad, which now serves as the manufacturer's 'factory-supported team'.
This appointment is widely seen as a stepping stone to the factory Ducati squad. If all goes according to plan, Aldeguer could be promoted to the main team by 2029, when he will be just 24 years old.
Aldeguer's MotoGP journey so far has been eventful. In his 2025 rookie season, he impressed by clinching the Rookie of the Year title, with a maiden victory at the Indonesian GP, two more podiums in France and Austria, and an eighth-place finish in the standings with 214 points.
However, 2026 has been a challenging year. A severe left leg injury sustained while training on a production bike in January ruled him out of pre-season and the Thai GP. After a complicated recovery, a back injury during the Dutch GP sidelined him for Assen, Sachsenring, and Silverstone. So far, he has completed only eight of twelve grands prix, with a best result of second place in Barcelona.
Moving to VR46 gives him a fresh start with full factory support. He will be joined by Nicolo Bulega, whose appointment is yet to be officially confirmed. With the same machinery as the factory team, Aldeguer is expected to fight at the front and prove he is ready to carry Ducati's legacy forward.
