Albert Park in Melbourne is set to host both junior championships once again next season, continuing a successful run that began when F2 and Formula 3 first joined the Australian Grand Prix support bill back in 2023. The Melbourne round will serve as the third event of the year for both racing categories, directly following the traditional opening weekends in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. This confirmation reinforces the long-term agreement established between Formula 1 and the Australian Grand Prix Corporation to bring elite junior single-seater racing down under.

Formula 2 will contest a demanding 14 rounds in 2027, featuring exciting new additions with Istanbul and Mexico City joining the calendar, while Montreal is successfully retained after its introduction during the 2026 season. These two strategic October additions are specifically designed to reduce the lengthy gap that previously separated the latter stages of the season from the final showdowns in Qatar and Abu Dhabi. Meanwhile, Formula 3 will contest 10 rounds spanning four different continents, with Jeddah, Montreal, and Istanbul all making their historic first-ever appearances on the category's schedule.

The upcoming visit to Canada will mark Formula 3's inaugural race weekend appearance in North America, while Istanbul has been awarded the prestigious role of staging the season finale. Both championships will race in Melbourne prior to heading across the globe to Montreal, with Monaco, Silverstone, Spielberg, Monza, and Madrid also shared across the dual schedules later in the year. However, this major calendar reshuffle sees several familiar European venues dropping away, with Barcelona, Spa-Francorchamps, and Budapest entirely absent from the 2027 schedules, while Miami also disappears from the Formula 2 roster.

The confirmation of Melbourne's return guarantees that passionate Australian fans will secure another golden opportunity to witness one of the nation's leading junior drivers compete fiercely on home soil. Rising star James Wharton will step up to Formula 2 with Trident next season after successfully completing his second full Formula 3 campaign in 2026. The 20-year-old previously finished 17th in the F3 standings with Prema this year, accumulating 39 points and claiming a stellar victory in the Barcelona sprint before wrapping up his campaign with a strong second-place finish in Madrid.

His upcoming move to Trident will mark his maiden full-time season in Formula 2, having previously gained valuable experience through a one-off appearance for the team in Qatar back in 2025. James Wharton's much-anticipated promotion will finally restore a full-time Australian presence on the F2 grid for the first time since Jack Doohan completed his final full-time season in the category back in 2023. According to Speedcafe reports, ticket sales for the highly anticipated 2027 Australian Grand Prix officially opened to the public earlier this week.
