The second triple-header of the 2026 Formula 1 season is officially up and running at Austin, where teams are finessing their set-ups across the Circuit of the Americas' demanding corner combinations and multiple bumps.
Engineering crews immediately went to work as soon as the pit lane opened, hunting for the ideal aerodynamic balance and mechanical grip to tackle the unique undulations of the Texas venue. Finding the right compromise between high-speed stability and low-speed agility remains the ultimate priority for every garage on the grid.
Setting the pace at the top of the timesheet was Charles Leclerc, who delivered a stellar lap time behind the wheel of his Ferrari charger. The Monegasque driver clocked an impressive benchmark of 1m36.052s to edge out his closest competitors in a fiercely contested opening session.

Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen slotting into second place, finishing just 0.084 seconds adrift of the pacesetter. Meanwhile, McLaren's Lando Norris rounded out the top three, trailing by 0.245 seconds to highlight the exceptionally tight margins at the front of the field.
Further down the order, George Russell and Kimi Antonelli secured fourth and fifth respectively for Mercedes, setting the stage for a dramatic remainder of the weekend as track evolution alters the competitive landscape.
