The opening practice session at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez delivered high drama immediately as the green light signalled the start of a crucial Formula 1 race weekend. Charles Leclerc quickly laid down the early marker by setting the fastest lap time, maximizing the low-grip track conditions that heavily tested every driver on the grid.
This weekend serves as a major showcase for young talents and rookies stepping into FP1 cockpits, but the transition was far from smooth for several rising stars. Trouble struck early for Isack Hadjar, who reported a mechanical issue aboard his Red Bull and was forced to limp back slowly to the safety of the pit lane.
The unique high-altitude circuit immediately caught out several competitors with heavy braking zones and slippery asphalt. Nico Hulkenberg suffered a sizeable double lock-up that resulted in noticeable flat spots on his tires before managing to rejoin the circuit for limited running.

On-track action was further disrupted when a Virtual Safety Car was deployed after Jak Crawford was instructed to shut down his Aston Martin and bring it to a halt out on the track at Turn 1, neutralizing the session temporarily.
Amid the chaos, teams battled various teething issues including a bizarre mishap where Freddie Slater had his run cut short due to a cooling fan left attached to his car. Meanwhile, seasoned veterans like Lewis Hamilton had to execute sharp steering corrections to tame their machinery in the thin Mexican air.
