The second free practice session of the 2026 United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of The Americas promises intense battles at the front, following highly competitive opening runs earlier in the day. Engineers and drivers are now shifting their complete focus toward qualifying simulations and gathering crucial telemetry data regarding tire management and high degradation rates on the Texas circuit.
During the earlier FP1 session, Charles Leclerc emerged as the pacesetter on the asphalt of Austin, relying on the latest upgrade package brought by Ferrari. The Monegasque driver delivered an impressive lap time to edge out his closest rivals.
Right behind Leclerc, the battle at the top was intensified by Max Verstappen, who finished just 84 milliseconds adrift in second place. Meanwhile, Lando Norris rounded out the top three with consistent race pace from the very beginning of practice.
The fight at the sharp end also featured the silver arrows camp, where George Russell and his teammate secured fourth and fifth positions. The shifting performance hierarchy among top teams is expected to become much clearer once the pit lane green light signals the start of the evening session.
