The second practice session (FP2) at the iconic Interlagos circuit unfolded under a blanket of mist, yet it did nothing to dampen the pace of newly crowned world champion Kimi Antonelli. The Mercedes driver set a blistering 1:10.763, reinforcing his status as the man to beat in the current 2026 campaign.
Antonelli finished 0.253s clear of his closest rival, Lando Norris, who struggled to match the Mercedes' sheer pace in the tricky conditions. Max Verstappen rounded out the top three, replicating his solid performance from the earlier FP1 session.
For Ferrari, all eyes were on the duo of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, who placed sixth and seventh respectively. Following their high-stakes internal meeting to address the friction caused by the Mexico City incident, the team remains focused on stabilizing their hierarchy, though they clearly have work to do to close the gap to the front-runners.

The damp track surface demanded immense focus, with George Russell securing fourth for Mercedes, while Oscar Piastri took fifth for McLaren. Further down the order, the midfield battle intensified, with emerging talents like Gabriel Bortoleto and Isack Hadjar showing flashes of speed as they pushed their machinery to the limit.
With the data gathered during this session, teams will now pivot to refining their setups for qualifying. Antonelli’s clinical display suggests he is in a league of his own, leaving his rivals with a mountain to climb as the Sao Paulo weekend progresses.
