The Phillip Island circuit immediately delivered extreme weather drama as heavy rain forecasts became a reality ahead of a crucial weekend session. Teams were forced to fit soft wet-weather tires to cope with the extremely slippery asphalt in order to secure competitive lap times. This tricky situation was masterfully handled by Marc Marquez, who displayed unmatched pace despite suffering a dramatic crash early in the pole position shootout.
Since the second free practice session, the Spanish superstar managed to pull nearly a full second clear of his closest rivals on the soaking wet track. Pedro Acosta, Jorge Martin, Marco Bezzecchi, and Johann Zarco were among the names trying their best to match the pace. Unfortunately, the grid was depleted further after the Honda squad had to withdraw Luca Marini due to illness ahead of the Australian Grand Prix action.
Entering the first qualifying phase, the competitive tension rose instantly as the racing line began to dry out toward the final minutes. KTM rider Brad Binder alongside local hero Jack Miller made a brilliant tactical shift by utilizing a medium wet tire combination. That clever strategy successfully propelled Miller and Zarco through to the decisive second qualifying session to fight for the top grid positions.

The true drama unfolded when the top twelve riders headed out for Q2 and rain started falling again over the circuit. Marc Marquez immediately pushed hard on his first flying lap only to suffer a front-end crash at Turn 4 into the grass. The incident not only forced the world champion to sprint back to the pit lane, but it also triggered yellow flags that ruined the initial flying laps of his chasers.
It did not take long for the veteran rider to bounce back after jumping onto his secondary motorcycle and heading right back out onto the asphalt. With mere minutes remaining on the clock, he clawed his way back to the top of the timesheets with a breathtaking display. Meanwhile, championship contenders like Martin and Bezzecchi fought desperately to salvage their starting positions amidst heavy traffic on track.
