When Holden withdrew factory support for HDT at the end of 1979, Brock took over the operation. He ended the year with his third Australian Touring Car Championship and another Bathurst win in the new Commodore. The 1980s saw HDT's commercial success, including the build of the 1000th road-going vehicle, and memorable on-track battles with loyal teammate John Harvey and chief rival Dick Johnson.
