The championship landscape in the GT World Challenge America shifted dramatically after Yardley was officially crowned as the winner of the SRO GT Academy scholarship. The New Zealand driver inherited the prestigious prize following the disqualification of top contenders due to missed rounds.
Previously, Sargent held a commanding 61-point lead heading into the season finale. However, his absence from the Indianapolis 8 Hour due to a clashing commitment in the European Le Mans Series with Proton Competition completely derailed his championship aspirations.
The SRO Motorsports Group confirmed the removal via an official noticeboard before the Indianapolis endurance event. According to Article 2 regarding eligibility, drivers are strictly required to compete on a full-season basis unless a formal force majeure is accepted by the Sporting Board.

This ruling handed the coveted prize straight to Yardley, who finished third in the Pro-Am class at Indianapolis alongside his Wright Motorsports co-drivers. Yardley now joins Jarrod Waberski from the British GT Championship as confirmed drivers for the upcoming Spa 24 Hours campaign.
"It is an incredible feeling to come away from the Indianapolis 8 Hour as the SRO GT Academy winner," Yardley expressed. He added that he looks forward to uniting with global academy winners next season to tackle one of the world's biggest GT races aboard a Team Motopark-run Mercedes-AMG GT3.
