Xavier Artigas followed the conventional career path typical of Spanish motorcycle racers, starting on small-displacement prototype machinery before fighting his way through the Moto3 and Moto2 World Championships. Although the 23-year-old showcased solid performances, highlighted by a memorable Moto3 victory in Valencia back in 2021, he found himself needing a fresh environment after the 2024 season concluded, which ultimately led him into the Italian Supersport series.

Riding for the Kawasaki squad Blackflag Motorsport, Artigas quickly re-established his reputation and earned a coveted contract with MTM Kawasaki for the inaugural Sportbike World Championship. The Belgian outfit stands as the most successful team in Supersport 300 history, having previously guided talents like Jeffrey Buis and Adrian Huertas to world championship glory. However, the road to the title was far from a straightforward procession for the Catalan rider.

At one stage during the campaign, Artigas found himself sitting only sixth in the overall standings, trailing the championship leader by a daunting 37-point margin. Undeterred, he mounted a fierce comeback by securing vital race wins and podium finishes at Magny-Cours and Cremona, systematically closing the gap at the top. A brilliant victory in the opening race at Jerez propelled him to the championship summit, aided by an unfortunate accident suffered by title rival David Salvador, allowing Artigas to play a tactical game and secure eighth place in the season finale.

Reflecting on his championship campaign, Artigas shared his unwavering mindset throughout the year. From the very first moment, he maintained complete confidence in himself and the entire team that whenever an opportunity to win presented itself, everything was possible. While Saturday's race was all about harvesting crucial championship points, the secondary heat required a smarter, risk-averse approach as he shadowed his main competitor closely to secure breathing room in the standings.

Claiming the 2026 Sportbike world title marks the crowning achievement of the Kawasaki rider's career thus far, etching his name permanently into the history books as the category's inaugural champion. Overwhelmed with joy, he expressed deep gratitude to everyone who kept faith in him, while also acknowledging his own resilience after years of relentless hard work finally paid off on the world stage.
