The World Rally Championship (WRC) title battle took a dramatic twist during Stage 11 at Rally Sardinia. A major Hyundai star was forced into a premature retirement following a high-profile crash early in the special stage. This sudden incident immediately reshaped the competitive landscape and handed vital championship advantages to key contenders at the front of the field.
The setback struck Thierry Neuville when his car slid off the road just 1.1 kilometers into the test, ending his rally on the spot. The retirement not only dashed his immediate ambitions but also promoted WRC points leader Elfyn Evans up into fifth place in the provisional rally standings.
At the sharp end of the field, Oliver Solberg driving for Toyota extended his commanding rally lead substantially. However, the Swede admitted a mixed set of emotions regarding the rival's demise. Behind Solberg, fellow Toyota stalwart Sebastien Ogier holds second position, trailing the leader by 36.6 seconds.

The podium fight remains fiercely contested, with Adrien Fourmaux holding third place for Hyundai ahead of Sami Pajari. With Saturday afternoon stages notoriously unpredictable in Sardinia, teams brace for a tense conclusion before Sunday's final flag.
