An extraordinary performance was once again delivered by Nicolo Bulega on the Estoril circuit. Even though he had already secured his maiden Superbike world championship title earlier in the season, the Italian rider showed absolutely no signs of slowing down his relentless hunger for success in international motorcycle racing. After setting a blistering new lap record during qualifying, the newly crowned world champion etched his name in the history books once again by equaling the all-time record for the most victories in a single championship season.
Three years ago, Alvaro Bautista famously dominated the grid aboard his Ducati to claim the top step of the podium on 27 separate occasions. Now, Bulega has exactly matched that phenomenal milestone at the Portuguese round. With several race weekends still remaining on the calendar, the Emilian rider holds a golden opportunity to surpass this elite benchmark and claim sole ownership of the record for the most race wins in a single campaign.
The opening race at Estoril delivered high drama right from the moment the lights went out. Both Aruba.it-Ducati machines got away cleanly off the line, but it was Iker Lecuona who made the ultimate burst to grab the holeshot. Meanwhile, Bulegas briefly lost his second-place grid advantage to Alex Lowes, though the #11 rider wasted no time in fighting back, overtaking the Bimota competitor before the completion of the very first lap.

The decisive move for the lead came on the third lap when Bulega successfully outmaneuvered Lecuona to capture control of the race. Further down the order, local hero Miguel Oliveira put on a strong display aboard his BMW, while an intense all-Italian scrap for seventh position between Lorenzo Baldassarri and Yari Montella provided plenty of thrills following contact at turn three that damaged the aerodynamic wing of the Ducati.
At the checkered flag, the podium positions remained settled, with Bulega securing a crucial second-place finish to equal the legendary win record. Read our in-depth analysis, check the latest championship standings, and stay updated on this weekend's schedule right here on Sportrik Media.
