The European motorcycle racing landscape is buzzing with major announcements coming from the IDM and WorldSBK paddocks ahead of the 2026 season. Promoters at ADAC are currently deep into preparations for the future structure, while riders are actively securing their futures amidst fierce competition on the asphalt.
For Twan Smits, last weekend marked the conclusion of an extraordinary journey in international racing. After opening the year strong in the Euro Moto Superbike with four consecutive victories, Yamaha Germany gave him the opportunity to contest the final two rounds of the Superbike World Championship. Facing Estoril and Jerez proved to be a baptism of fire against established factory stars.
'2026 is done,' Twan Smits reflected on Sunday evening. 'We finish the season with a big step in the right direction. I am very satisfied with the feeling and positive races in both the Superpole race and Race 2. The pace was consistent, but still too slow for the group ahead of us. It has been a few difficult weeks, but in the end, we took a good step forward. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to making this journey possible. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to experience this paddock and enjoyed every moment of it. Grazie a tutti!' His adventure continues after signing with the Yamaha MotoXracing WorldSBK Team for the upcoming chapter.

Meanwhile, a major shift has occurred in the British Superbike Championship as Ilya Mikhalchik officially announced his departure from BMW. Having claimed four IDM Superbike titles, the Ukrainian rider transitioned to the BSB Superclass aboard a Rokit BMW after securing the Superstock crown in his debut British campaign.
'A chapter comes to an end,' Ilya Mikhalchik stated regarding his nine-year association with the brand. 'Nine seasons with BMW. In these years we have traveled a long way: eight teams, 54 wins, 95 podiums, and 5 championship titles ā results backed by incredible hard work. Thank you to every team I had the opportunity to race with, and everyone who helped me achieve these results. A special thanks to Team IWR for this season. It was not an easy season, but one full of valuable experience, lessons, and moments that I will take with me on my further path. Thank you, BMW, and everyone who stood by my side during these years.'
In other paddock news, endurance world champion and IDM powerhouse Markus Reiterberger has agreed to a partnership with Ilmberger Carbon starting in 2027, serving as the official brand ambassador and fresh promotional face for the Bavarian enterprise.
