Peter Windsor, a senior motorsport analyst, believes only Frederic Vasseur can manage Ferrari's two stars, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc. However, he laments that the French team principal is rarely heard on the team radio.
Speaking on the Cameron CC podcast, Windsor dissected the internal dynamics at Scuderia that heated up after the Dutch GP. According to him, Hamilton's arrival as Carlos Sainz's replacement has disrupted the balance that previously existed in the Maranello garage.
“Charles and Carlos were the ideal pair. Carlos was fast enough to win when Charles had issues, but he never really stepped on Charles's toes. Now with Lewis, it's different. Both have their own views, and the engineers have no authority to manage them,” Windsor said.
He stressed that the only person both drivers respect is Vasseur. “But we never hear him on the radio. Yet, a firm decision from the top is absolutely necessary,” he added.
Windsor also warned that signing Hamilton inevitably brings drama. “You know there will be drama. You know situations like Zandvoort will repeat. You need someone at the top who says 'this is how we do it'. Lewis is a seven-time world champion, Charles is a Ferrari hero in Italy and Monaco. Both have huge influence, and no one dares to order them around. That's why chaos reigns,” he concluded.
