The Williams Formula 1 team is set to mark its half-century milestone in motorsport with a year-long celebration of its rich heritage, headlined by a major commemorative exhibition in central London. Titled 'W50 Live', the event will take place at 26 Leake Street, located right by Waterloo's iconic under-station graffiti tunnel, showcasing six cars that have defined both the team's legacy and F1 history.
In a direct nod to its famous chassis moniker honoring founder Frank Williams, the team has officially confirmed that its 2027 challenger will be named the FW50. By skipping the traditional FW49 designation, the outfit pays fitting tribute to the 50th anniversary of its inaugural race back in 1977 when it competed under the banner of Williams Grand Prix Engineering.
The ticketed public exhibition, running from February 11-28, will feature the very first F1 car produced by the constructor, the FW06. Visitors will also get a close-up look at legendary world championship-winning machines including the FW11B driven by Nelson Piquet in 1987, the dominant FW14B of Nigel Mansell from 1992, and the FW19 that carried Jacques Villeneuve to glory in 1997.

Furthermore, Williams has selected two special cars to highlight incredible speed milestones. The 2003 FW25 set the record for the fastest average speed in F1 history through Juan Pablo Montoya, a benchmark that stood for 17 years, alongside the 2016 FW38 which still holds the record for the highest speed ever reached by an F1 car after Valtteri Bottas hit 378 km/h during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend.
As part of the celebrations, fans will be granted the unique opportunity to choose a special livery for the team's home race at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. This comprehensive rebranding initiative is expected to cover race suits for drivers like Alex Albon, team kit, garage aesthetics, and the car itself, accompanied by limited-edition merchandise including a custom W50 Monopoly set.
