Toprak Razgatlioglu has faced a considerably more complex adaptation process after leaving WorldSBK and entering MotoGP in 2026 with Prima Pramac Yamaha. As a three-time WorldSBK champion, expectations surrounding his debut were high, yet by the second half of the season he has continued to struggle for the consistency required to fight at the front. The challenge is not simply about motorcycle performance, but also involves major changes in tyre behaviour, ergonomics, electronics and riding technique.

One of the biggest factors is the difference between the Pirelli tyres used in WorldSBK and Michelin in MotoGP. In Superbike, Toprak has been highly effective at exploiting rear grip to brake aggressively, use controlled sliding and then apply the throttle while the motorcycle remains leaned over. That technique became a fundamental part of the riding style that helped him achieve major success in WorldSBK.

That approach cannot be transferred directly to MotoGP. Toprak has explained that maintaining cornering speed is not his natural riding style. When he opens the throttle too aggressively while the motorcycle is still leaned over, the rear tyre can lose traction. This forces him to change instincts that have been developed over many years and find a different way of generating speed through the entry and exit phases of a corner.

“I know people are getting bored with me talking about the bike, but the Michelin tyre is the real problem for me,” Toprak said in the interview material provided. The statement highlights that his difficulties are not simply a matter of results, but are connected to how the tyre characteristics affect the fundamental technique that has traditionally been one of his greatest strengths.

Another issue involves the ergonomics of the Yamaha V4. At around 185 centimetres tall, Toprak requires a different riding position from what is naturally suited to a MotoGP prototype. Adjustments to the seating position, handlebars and aerodynamic components have therefore become part of the process of finding a configuration that allows him to control the motorcycle naturally. Some of those changes have also involved rear aerodynamic equipment, which can affect stability and acceleration performance.

The Yamaha V4's engine-braking characteristics have created another challenge. Toprak has identified the engine-brake system as an area that required attention. When the throttle is closed, an electronic deceleration response that does not fully match his braking instincts can affect the motorcycle's stability approaching a corner. For a rider who has traditionally relied heavily on aggressive braking, even relatively small differences during the deceleration phase can significantly change how the motorcycle behaves.

The adaptation process has also been made more demanding by Toprak's previous benchmark in WorldSBK. He arrived in MotoGP accustomed to fighting for podiums, only to find himself outside the leading battle while learning a fundamentally different motorcycle. His teammate Jack Miller has also been cited as recommending a smoother riding approach, but changing reflexes developed over years of competition is not an immediate process.

For that reason, Toprak's difficulties in MotoGP 2026 are better understood as a technical transition involving several elements simultaneously. He must adapt his use of the tyres, braking, throttle, body position and electronic response of the motorcycle. His progress will depend on how quickly the rider and machine can find a configuration that works with his natural strengths.

Several analyses included in the supplied material also view 2026 as an experimental period ahead of major regulatory changes in 2027. Without speculating about the eventual outcome, however, the remainder of the 2026 season remains an important phase for Toprak to understand MotoGP's demands and turn his WorldSBK experience into a foundation for his next stage of development.
