The sprint race weekend at the Marina Bay Circuit is officially underway, with Max Verstappen successfully securing pole position for the sprint race at the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix. The reigning world champion delivered a dominant performance under the iconic night lights, setting a crucial benchmark time of 1 minute 31.156 seconds that remained unmatched by his closest rivals throughout the intense qualifying session.
The battle for the front row heated up right from the opening moments of the sprint qualifying format. George Russell, extracting strong pace from his Mercedes machinery, had to settle for second place after finishing just 0.120 seconds adrift of the flying Dutchman. Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc completed the top three for Ferrari, slotting in 0.243 seconds behind and showing promising speed around the challenging street circuit layout.
The fight at the sharp end of the grid was further amplified by the competitive McLaren duo lurking right behind the leaders. Oscar Piastri claimed fourth position with a 0.298-second gap, sitting just ahead of his teammate Lando Norris, who rounded out the top five with a deficit of 0.431 seconds. The impressive pace shown by the Woking-based squad sets up a thrilling tactical battle for crucial championship points during the upcoming sprint event.

Moving further down the top ten order, Lewis Hamilton placed his second Ferrari in sixth position, followed closely by rising star Kimi Antonelli in seventh for Mercedes. The eighth spot was locked down by Liam Lawson driving for Racing Bulls, while Isack Hadjar took ninth after having a lap time deleted due to track limits, and Pierre Gasly completed the top ten for Alpine.
Drama unfolded throughout the midfield and lower half of the grid as well. Franco Colapinto led the chasing pack in eleventh, narrowly ahead of Audi's Nico Hulkenberg and Haas charger Ollie Bearman. Elsewhere, Fernando Alonso faced an uphill task for Aston Martin from P15, while drivers such as Carlos Sainz at Williams found themselves forced to start from the back of the field following a difficult session.
