Verstappen-Red Bull: Exit Clause Still Exists, Here's the Proof

The news of Max Verstappen's contract extension until 2030 once made Red Bull feel secure. But is the Dutch driver truly without any escape routes? Apparently not.

Verstappen's manager, Raymond Vermeulen, has hinted that despite the new deal being signed, there are still scenarios that could allow the four-time world champion to leave Milton Keynes. It's not that the exit door is wide open like before, but rather a safety net that makes sense in any professional agreement.

Previously, the performance-based exit clause that could trigger Verstappen's freedom in 2026 was a nightmare for Red Bull. Speculation about internal negotiations heated up, with differing views between the Austrian management and Thai owners. Eventually, a deal was reached after Red Bull shelled out a staggering sum — reportedly nearly half a billion euros for the 2027-2030 period — plus contract revisions more favorable to the team.

However, Vermeulen told Bild that loyalty doesn't mean closing all doors. “We have always been loyal and will continue to be. Our desire is to continue this journey with Red Bull and let Verstappen end his career here, but of course with the guarantee of having a car capable of winning,” he said.

That statement underscores that the car's competitiveness remains the foundation. If Red Bull ever fails to provide a competitive package, Verstappen has strong grounds to reconsider his future. It's not about looking for an escape, but ensuring his career stays at the highest level.

With this dynamic, the fight for Verstappen's signature could reopen in the future. Teams like Mercedes and Aston Martin will certainly keep an eye on developments, though for now, Verstappen's priority is defending his title and helping Red Bull recover from last season's technical slump.
