Like many competitors on the grid, Red Bull had opted for intermediate tyres for the standing start following a rain delay. However, Verstappen's troubled getaway completely erased any grid advantage he held. Rather than panicking, the reigning champion focused on settling into a steady rhythm, knowing the race distance was long enough to mount a methodical comeback through the field.
The race dynamic shifted dramatically when a safety car was deployed after Valtteri Bottas went off track into the gravel. Seizing the opportunity, Red Bull pitted their star driver for soft compound tyres, whereas race leader Antonelli was fitted with medium tyres. That crucial strategic variance paved the way for a thrilling fight at the restart.
As racing resumed, Verstappen utilized the superior grip of the softer rubber to overtake Antonelli into Turn 1, quickly pulling clear before tyre degradation could become a major factor. He ultimately crossed the finish line 2.307 seconds ahead of Antonelli, while Lewis Hamilton secured third place to complete the podium for Ferrari.
Beyond the immediate race drama, the victory marked the very first win for the power unit developed from scratch at Milton Keynes in tandem with Ford. Reflecting on the monumental milestone after a difficult start to the season, the team's relentless upgrades and meticulous tyre calls under pressure culminated in what Verstappen described as a truly fantastic feeling.
