Max Verstappen Sportrik Media - remained inside the top three after the opening day of qualifying for the 2026 Nurburgring 24H as heavy rain prevented improvements during the night session.
Persistent wet conditions around the Nordschleife meant no team was able to improve on the lap times set during Thursday afternoon qualifying practice. The difficult conditions also limited Verstappen to only a single cautious lap during the night running.
Despite the slow run, the lap remained important because regulations require every driver to complete at least one lap in darkness ahead of the race.

The Mercedes-AMG Team Ravenol #80 entry retained the overall fastest time of the day with an 8m14.957s lap recorded during the afternoon session.
Meanwhile, Team Verstappen Racing finished third overall in its Mercedes-AMG GT3, ending the day 3.6 seconds behind the benchmark pace.
During the rain-soaked evening session, team-mate Dani Juncadella posted the squad’s fastest lap with a 9m34.713s effort.
The battle for Friday’s Top Qualifying sessions is expected to intensify further as several leading GT3 teams continue to hide their full performance potential.
