Fred Vasseur has finally spoken out. Amid persistent rumours about his future as Ferrari team principal, the Frenchman revealed that criticism has gone beyond performance and become personal.
Speaking during FP1 for the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia, Vasseur addressed Ferrari's recent official statement reaffirming full support for him. "You have to ask your colleague about that," he said, referring to the statement from chief communications officer Maria Conti. "When you see the noise and all the rumours in the press all week, as a team we need to work in serenity, and that was absolutely not the case. The statement was mandatory to do something, or it would have been the same this weekend."
Rumours about Vasseur's future intensified after Christian Horner was linked with an interest in his role. Despite Vasseur having signed a multi-year extension and being in his fourth season with Ferrari, the team's fluctuating performance and questions about how Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton can work together on track have led some fans to doubt his leadership.

Ferrari currently sits second in the constructors' standings with two wins. However, a lack of car development has made it difficult to maintain a consistent fight against the top teams. Vasseur acknowledged that criticism is part of the job. "When you take the role, you know the positive and negative sides of the job," he said. "I was expecting something like this. Sometimes it's a bit unfair when you put someone under the bus, and I'm there to defend my team, my guys. As I said before, when we are winning, we are winning as a team. But when we are struggling, I'm there to defend them."
Vasseur's comments come at a crucial time as speculation refuses to die down. He stressed that stability and calm within the team are key to focusing on racing. "The big issue we have today is the stability, the serenity into the team, the focus that we need to have and not to have this kind of question all day," he stated.
Support has also come from the drivers. Leclerc and Hamilton are reported to have expressed their faith in Vasseur. This signals that internally, the team remains solid despite mounting external pressure. Ferrari is under intense scrutiny, especially after a series of disappointing results in recent races.
With second place in the standings, Ferrari still has a chance to compete for the rest of the season. However, the biggest challenge is developing the car to consistently fight with the leading teams. Vasseur knows that only results on track can silence the rumours. "We have to stay focused on our job," he concluded. "All these rumours are just distractions."
