MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi suffered a bizarre moment during last weekend's Barcelona GT World Challenge race when the door of his BMW fell off. The penultimate round of the 2026 GT World Challenge Europe season took place in mixed conditions last weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, marking the final round of the Sprint Cup championship series where poor weather on Saturday forced grid changes.
The seven-time world champion and his team-mate Max Hesse finished 16th in Race 1 aboard the No.46 WRT BMW. Starting from 15th for Race 2 following the cancellation of standard qualifying, they endured a torrid afternoon after the Italian suffered a bizarre mechanical issue in the latter stages of the contest while running in 12th position.
Rossi lost the left-hand driver's side door from his BMW and was forced to drive the Barcelona circuit completely exposed. Due to the immediate safety concerns raised by driving a GT car without a door, race control and the team required him to pit immediately for emergency repairs.

This proved exceedingly costly as the car needed to be wheeled all the way back into the WRT garage for the detached door to be refitted. It remains unclear how the door managed to become completely detached from the chassis during the heat of the race competition.
Reflecting on the weekend via his social media channels, a light-hearted Valentino Rossi stated: "Everything happened this weekend, eh? But only bad things! Anyway..." He will return to the track for the final round of the Endurance Cup at Portimao, sharing the venue with Formula 1 star Max Verstappen.
