Triple Eight Race Engineering has put its last unraced Holden ZB Commodore chassis up for sale, offering a unique opportunity for motorsport enthusiasts. The chassis, coded 888A-071, was originally intended to debut in the Super2 Series with driver Ben Gomersall.
Managing Director Jamie Whincup announced the sale in a social media video, describing the chassis as the perfect base for a track weapon or even a street car. "This is an absolute brand new chassis. At the moment, it's a ZB Commodore, with some panelling and a roof," Whincup said.
The project was initially paused in September due to a heavy workload ahead of the team's switch to Ford, and was later abandoned following Triple Eight's withdrawal from Super2. The uncertain future of Gen2 cars, which will have nowhere to race once Gen3 moves into Super2 in 2028, adds to the urgency of the sale.
Whincup highlighted the chassis's versatility, noting that the buyer can strip it back to the bare chassis or fit another body if desired. "It's got all your pickup points, all the hard bits for your wishbones, your steering column, your fuel tank, your air jacks – it's all there ready to go," he explained.
Triple Eight also has all Super2 componentry in stock, ready for the buyer. "So anyone that's looking to build for time attack, a track carg or want to use this as a bit of a road car, come and see us," Whincup added. He believes the price will be a fraction of what it would cost to build a similar car at home.
"It's probably the best built chassis we've ever done, certainly in the Gen2 era," Whincup stated. "It'd be a shame for this to end up on the tip, so we want to see it go to a nice home."
