The Trans Am category is set to make history by introducing its very first endurance race at the iconic Mount Panorama circuit in Bathurst, scheduled for Saturday, March 27, 2026. This prestigious competition forms a major highlight of the upcoming Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour race weekend running from March 26 to 28, bringing a completely fresh tactical challenge to all participating teams.
The race format will feature a dedicated mid-race break designed specifically for refueling and driver changes. Because these competing machines do not utilize a quick-fill dry break fuel system, organizers have opted for a NASCAR-style stage format, splitting the event into two distinct halves without altering the baseline technical specifications or mechanical parts of the race cars.
Trans Am Cup category manager Matt MacKelden shared his excitement after event organizers approached them with the vision to elevate their standard appearance into a full endurance-format showdown on Saturday afternoon. Building on the proven success of the TA2 Tag Team Enduro, bringing an authentic endurance race to the spiritual home of long-distance racing in Australia marks a massive milestone for the series.
"The Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour has become an important event on the Trans Am Cup Series calendar," Matt MacKelden stated regarding the collaboration. He further emphasized that taking up the challenge to race on Saturday afternoon was an immediate thrill for the entire category management team given the historic significance of the venue.
Organizers are confident that this innovative endurance format will successfully attract high-profile drivers to Mount Panorama. With the Bathurst 6 Hour firmly established alongside the Bathurst 12 Hour and Bathurst 1000 as one of the premier endurance events in the country, the grid is expected to host an exceptional lineup of top-tier talent.
"It gives both TA2 and Trans Am competitors an opportunity to race against the cream of the crop in Australian motorsport which is exciting," concluded Matt MacKelden.
