Toyota Debuts B-Spec Engine at Ipswich to Solve Reliability Woes

Walkinshaw TWG has finally delivered on its plan to debut the 'B-spec' Toyota engine at Ipswich this weekend. The homologation team had long targeted this round as the launch point for the upgraded 5.2-litre 2UR-GSE powerplant, developed in collaboration with Swindon Powertrains.

The B-spec features revised camshafts aimed at reducing load on the valvetrain, directly addressing the reliability issues that have plagued Toyota's campaign this season. The changes are expected to bring both performance and durability gains, crucial in the fiercely competitive Supercars field.

The development process was a race against time, with engines being built in Melbourne and requiring sign-off from Supercars' Brisbane engine shop. According to Speedcafe, four B-spec units have been completed—double the initial forecast—and three were trackside by Thursday afternoon, with the fourth en route.

These engines will be allocated to Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood of Walkinshaw TWG, as well as Andre Heimgartner and Cam Hill of Brad Jones Racing, leaving Macauley Jones as the only Toyota driver on the A-spec at Ipswich.
