Jack Wolff, the nine-year-old son of Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff, has escaped major injury following a major karting accident.
The young driver was competing in the IAME Warrior Final karting competition at the Leopard Circuit Viterbo in Italy, participating in the highly competitive X30 Mini class.
According to trackside reports during the final lap of the race, Wolff and another competitor had broken slightly clear of the chasing pack before making contact on one of the circuit straights.
The impact sent his kart spinning out, where it was collected by a following kart that subsequently went over his back and struck his shoulder.
Despite the frightening nature of the incident, the nine-year-old was reportedly okay enough after the last-lap crash to extract himself from the kart under his own power.
Demonstrating remarkable resilience, sources indicated that he was immediately keen to get back behind the wheel and race again the following day.
Prior to this incident in Italy, Wolff had competed successfully in the IAME Series Italy under-10s X30 class earlier in the year, claiming his maiden driver's title.
The accident occurred while both of his parents were away in the United States attending the Formula 1 race weekend and related motorsport events.
While his father managed operations at the main Grand Prix venue, his mother was occupied with her managerial duties overseeing the F1 Academy series.
