Toto Wolff has made clear that Mercedes does not intend to change its driver line-up for the 2027 Formula 1 season, effectively shutting down the prospect of Max Verstappen replacing George Russell.
Wolff addressed the situation during the Austrian Grand Prix weekend, amid persistent speculation over Verstappen's long-term future at Red Bull. Mercedes has repeatedly been linked with the four-time world champion, while Wolff has never hidden his admiration for the Dutchman's ability.
However, the Mercedes team principal said the Brackley-based team is satisfied with its current pairing of Russell and Kimi Antonelli. Antonelli has quickly established himself as a major force within the team, while Russell remains central to Mercedes' long-term plans.

"We don't want to change things, and I've also said to George that I think it's a line-up that is good for us," Wolff told Sky Sports F1.
"We're very happy with the two of them," he added.
The comments provide an important signal for Russell, who has faced increasing pressure from Antonelli this season. Despite a difficult run of luck and fluctuating form, Russell has confirmed he will remain with Mercedes in 2027 through a driver option in his contract.
Verstappen remains under contract with Red Bull until the end of 2028, although reported exit clauses continue to fuel speculation over his future. With Mercedes now indicating it is not seeking a line-up change, Verstappen rumours have increasingly shifted toward McLaren, even though Zak Brown has also denied that the team is in the market for a new driver.
For Mercedes, Wolff's position clarifies the team's strategic direction ahead of the 2027 regulation cycle. Rather than pursuing a major driver market move, the Silver Arrows appear committed to stability, with Russell and Antonelli forming the foundation of their next title push.
