Luuk de Vries will not be alone. He will be joined by two other young Dutch talents, Milan Hunneman and Mick Koomen, at the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup Selection Event at the Circuito de Guadix in Spain early next month. All three have received official invitations to the selection that will determine who earns a spot on the 2027 grid.
This invitation marks a significant milestone for Dutch motorcycle racing. De Vries, who was the first to receive an invite, now has two compatriots recognised for their potential. Milan Hunneman and Mick Koomen earned their call-ups after impressive performances in various junior categories. However, an invitation does not guarantee selection. Milan Hunneman: From Minicrosser to KTM 250cc
For Milan Hunneman, this is a major step in a career that began at a very young age. Born on 9 October 2011, Hunneman first rode a minicrosser at three and moved to minibikes at five. At eight, he started competing in the Junior A class. His rapid progression continued when, in 2025, he was given the chance to ride a KTM 250cc provided by Brouwer Motoren at the TT Circuit Assen. Throughout 2026, he rode the machine several more times.
Additionally, Hunneman gained international experience at the World Finals in Valencia and was selected for the KNMV Talent Team. This blend of domestic and international experience will be invaluable ahead of the Guadix selection.
Mick Koomen: Rookie and Vice-Champion in NSF100
Mick Koomen, 14, from Ermelo, also received an invitation after a string of strong results. After years of honing his skills on minibikes, he moved to the Molenaar NSF100 Cup in 2024 and immediately clinched the Rookie title. In his second season, he finished as vice-champion. Now, Koomen competes in the 190cc class of the FIM MotoMini Netherlands Series and currently sits second in the standings. Recently, he also had the opportunity to race in the ADAC Junior Cup at TT Circuit Assen against an international field.
For Koomen, this invitation is another international stage to showcase his talent. He is determined to make the most of every opportunity in Guadix to catch the eye of the selectors.
Luuk de Vries: Spanish Experience as an Asset
Luuk de Vries, who received his invitation earlier, brings valuable experience from racing in Spain. Although details remain scarce, his presence at the selection reinforces the Netherlands' growing presence in global junior racing. De Vries is considered to have the maturity and speed to compete at the Rookies Cup level.
