Tardozzi: Losing Points at Mandalika Would Not Be Bad for Ducati

Heading into the race weekend at the Mandalika Circuit, Lenovo Ducati team manager Davide Tardozzi has openly admitted that dropping up to 12 points in the world championship standings would not be a disastrous outcome. This realistic assessment stems from the seaside circuit's challenging layout for the Borgo Panigale factory machine, alongside a difficult personal history for their star rider at the venue.

As reported by Motorsport.com, the situation is particularly vital because Marc Marquez is locked in an intense fight for the MotoGP world championship. Even though the Spanish rider arrives fresh off a maximum points haul at the previous round in Japan, a massive hurdle awaits in Indonesia. The characteristics of the Mandalika track are not entirely suited to the GP26, forcing the Italian factory squad to adopt a pragmatic approach toward damage limitation.

"Mandalika doesn't suit our bike properly," Davide Tardozzi told TNT Sports. When asked directly about an acceptable result in Indonesia, he offered specific figures, stating, "I think that losing 10, 12 points could be considered not bad." However, the Italian veteran was quick to clarify that this pragmatic outlook should not be mistaken for defeatism, emphasizing that the team's ultimate motivation remains fighting for the race victory.

Historical records at Mandalika present a daunting challenge for Marc Marquez, who has yet to finish a premier-class Grand Prix race at the Indonesian venue. The task is further complicated by his main title rival, Jorge Martin of Aprilia Racing Team, who holds a razor-thin advantage of just two points at the summit of the championship standings heading into the crucial weekend.

Despite the hurdles, strong leadership within the squad continues to inspire confidence inside the garage. "In the end, again, he's a leader. He's a leader inside the garage. He knows how to push," Davide Tardozzi concluded, highlighting Marc Marquez's invaluable capability to steer the team forward through difficult race weekends.
