Shane van Gisbergen kept his fifth-place starting spot for the NASCAR Cup Series race at New Hampshire after fears he would be sent to the back for unapproved changes to his car.
Rumors circulated that Shane van Gisbergen would be penalized for a starter replacement on his Chevrolet Camaro. However, officials later clarified that no changes were made to the Trackhouse Racing car, so the New Zealander keeps his spot.
Meanwhile, Tyler Reddick claimed pole position for 23XI Racing, edging Josh Berry of Wood Brothers Racing. Reddick set a 29.054s lap in his #45 Toyota Camry, just 0.015s faster than Berry's #21 Ford Mustang.
"I was thinking if qualifying went good, we'd be top 10," said Reddick. "Obviously you want to get the most out of the car, the most out of the lap. I just tried to understand what I didn't like about my car in practice and make sure not to tap into that at all on the lap. Just try to make the most of our strengths in practice and tie it all together and run a really good lap in qualifying. Just feel like my mindset was in a really good place for what I needed to do."
Row two will be occupied by William Byron of Hendrick Motorsports and Denny Hamlin of Joe Gibbs Racing. Van Gisbergen will be joined by Christopher Bell on row three.
This effort matched van Gisbergen's season-best oval qualifying result at Martinsville (excluding rain-outs). His Trackhouse Racing teammates Ross Chastain and Connor Zilisch will start 12th and 20th, respectively.
Monday's race will get underway at the earlier time of 4:00am AEST due to the threat of inclement weather.
