Supercars has finally responded after losing its appeal against the stewards' decision not to penalise Kai Allen in Perth. The category has chosen not to change any regulations, but it is offering teams a new option if they struggle with tyre pressures on the grid.

As we know, the stewards acknowledged the breaches but decided against a penalty due to several mitigating factors. That stance angered Supercars. They tried to fight back through an appeal, but the outcome was still unsatisfactory.

The defeat sparked internal discussions between Supercars and Motorsport Australia about the possibility of last-minute rule changes ahead of the Ipswich round. After careful consideration, however, they decided not to alter any existing regulations.

That decision is certainly risky. But Supercars has another way: teams found to be in breach of the 16 psi minimum while on the grid can avoid being referred to the stewards by pitting to change the offending tyre(s) at the end of the formation lap. The non-compliant tyre will then be impounded by Supercars.

This policy was communicated to teams during a team representatives briefing at the circuit on Thursday evening. As a result, teams now have a clearer 'escape route' without having to go through a lengthy legal process.

This move can be seen as an effort by Supercars to maintain sporting fairness while providing certainty for all teams. Even though there is no regulation change, this new option is expected to reduce similar controversies in the future.

Will this policy be effective? We'll see how it plays out on track. What's clear is that Supercars is trying to stay firm without having to change the rules that were already agreed upon.
