Ahead of the high-stakes Gold Coast 500 race weekend, the Supercars grid has experienced a major shake-up following a confirmed driver shuffle between two competitive outfits. Cooper Murray has officially parted company with Erebus Motorsport to embark on a new chapter with PremiAir Racing, stepping in to replace Declan Fraser for the remainder of the campaign.
This strategic move has been enacted early as both teams look ahead with a strong focus on building towards the 2027 motorsport season. According to reports from Speedcafe, Erebus moved swiftly to secure a replacement, confirming that Jarrod Hughes will step up into Murray’s vacated seat to gain crucial top-tier experience.
Erebus Motorsport CEO Barry Ryan emphasized that promoting Hughes is rooted in consistent development and a clear vision for the team's long-term future. This is about giving him the chance to experience Supercars, learn the car and see how he handles the step up, but we are also looking at Jarrod as a longer-term prospect for Erebus, stated Ryan regarding the young charger's readiness.

Over at PremiAir Racing, team owner Peter Xiberras and team principal Roland Dane welcomed the acquisition of Murray. The decision to part ways with Fraser comes after tracking performance data where he was consistently out-paced by younger teammate Jayden Ojeda. Dane stressed that securing Murray was an absolute necessity for accelerating their technical development program toward 2027.
We are grateful to Declan for his efforts this year in the team, but we want to prepare ourselves for 2027 as early as possible. The opportunity to put Cooper into the car now cannot be passed up as it will only benefit our program development for next season, Dane concluded as both teams gear up for an intense finish to the year.
