McLaren is enjoying a season of historic significance, with Andrea Stella at the helm shouldering the immense responsibility of preserving the team's rich heritage. The milestone moment arrived at the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix, as the team celebrated 60 years since its F1 debut and its 1,000th grand prix start, becoming only the second team after Ferrari to reach that figure.
Andrea Stella took the reins of McLaren at the start of 2023, when the team was languishing at the back of the grid. A sweeping technical restructure transformed their fortunes within months, turning them into podium contenders and eventually clinching their first constructors' championship in 26 years in 2024, followed by another in 2025.
Last season also witnessed Lando Norris securing his maiden drivers' title, adding to the team's tally of 21 grand prix wins and 22 pole positions under Stella's leadership.

When asked about his responsibility in safeguarding McLaren's legacy, Stella responded with conviction. "It is certainly a significant responsibility, coupled with a sense of pride, which I'm sure is shared by all my colleagues in the team," he said. "It is a privilege to lead this team because of what it represents in the history and present of Formula 1, but above all because of the way the team continues to look ahead and tackle challenges."
Stella emphasized the team's relentless drive. "There's a hunger for victory, there's energy, there's talent. There's a desire to write new chapters that live up to the tradition we carry on our shoulders, and to do so in true McLaren style," he added.
His comments come amid intense competition at the top of F1 this season. As reigning champions, McLaren aims to maintain their dominance while building for the future under new regulations. Consistency and technical innovation are key to staying ahead, and Stella appears ready to bear the weight of history.
With a blend of experience, young talent, and a winning culture instilled, McLaren under Stella is not just chasing victories but also striving to etch their name deeper into the sport's history books.
