The grueling gravel stages of Oliver Solberg and the rest of the WRC field delivered another twist on SS12 at Rally Sardinia. The demanding second pass through Coiluna nearly claimed an early retirement when M-Sport Ford charger Josh McErlean ran wide and clipped a tree.
While the initial impact looked merely cosmetic, onboard sensors quickly flagged a concerning engine overheating warning. The resilient Irish driver managed to nurse his damaged machine through the rest of the stage, preventing a complete disaster for the squad.
At the sharp end of the field, Toyota continued to dictate the pace. Solberg maintained his stellar form following a morning masterclass on the longest test, yielding only to his decorated teammate Sebastien Ogier during a blistering afternoon run.

The defining championship moment, however, arrived when Adrien Fourmaux suffered his second puncture of the day. The costly setback dropped the Frenchman down the order, handing a crucial promotion to Elfyn Evans as the title contender moved comfortably into strategic position.
Evans maintained a measured approach, focusing purely on survival through the soft sand and sharp rocks. With one final Saturday stage remaining before Sunday's showdown, the tactical battle is finely poised.
