Speedway GP Returns to Australia in 2027, Adelaide to Host

After a decade-long absence, the FIM Speedway Grand Prix is finally set to return to Australia. The world championship series last raced in Melbourne in 2017, and now it is scheduled to land at Gillman Speedway in Adelaide on October 29-30, 2027.

The confirmation has been warmly welcomed by speedway fans in Australia. Richard Coleman, founder of Mayfield Sports Events, revealed that the question of when the series would return to Australia has been one of the most frequently asked since he took over the championship a year ago.

“One of the main questions we have received from the fans since we acquired the championships a year ago is when we would be going back to Australia, so it is an absolute pleasure to make that dream a reality in October 2027,” said Coleman.

Coleman also highlighted Australia's rising speedway achievements. Australia won the 2025 FIM Speedway of Nations and the 2026 FIM Speedway World Cup, while rider Brady Kurtz is in top form and in contention for Speedway GP gold in Torun this weekend.

“This truly is a special time for Australian speedway, and there could not be a better moment to bring the series back to the country where the sport was born over 100 years ago,” he added.

Joe Parsons, director of special marketing projects EMEA & global for Monster Energy, also hailed the return. He said Australian fans have been starved of World Championship speedway for too long.

“We are very pleased to play our part in bringing the FIM Speedway GP of Australia – Adelaide to Gillman, and it will make for an incredible climax to what should be an awesome series,” said Parsons.

The announcement also came with the release of the full 2027 FIM Speedway GP calendar. The season will begin on May 1 in Donji Kraljevec, Croatia, before heading to Warsaw, Poland, on May 15. The third round will take place in Prague, Czechia, on May 29, while round four on June 12 is still listed as TBC.

The series then returns to Poland with a visit to Wroclaw on July 3, marking the first time since 1995. Riga, Latvia, hosts round six on July 17. Great Britain’s round moves from Manchester to Ipswich on August 14. The second-to-last European round will take place at Vojens, Denmark, on September 11, before the third visit to Poland at Torun on September 25.

The in-season FIM Speedway of Nations will return after a one-year hiatus for the FIM Speedway World Cup. In 2027, the contest will move to Vastervik, Sweden, for the first time.

FIM Track Racing Commission (CCP) director Armando Castagna expressed his delight. “The FIM has been keen to see Speedway GP return to Australia ever since the moment we left Melbourne in 2017, so I congratulate everyone involved in achieving this goal for 2027,” he said. “It’s great to see Warsaw and Donji Kraljevec return to the calendar, and of course we welcome Ipswich as a host club for the first time.”
