A high-stakes tactical drama unfolded during the Virtual Safety Car phase at the Singapore Grand Prix night race. Ferrari made the strategically sound decision to call both of their drivers into the pit lane for fresh rubber. The Italian team's clear objective was to put pressure on race leader Max Verstappen while firmly securing comfortable second and third-place finishes at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.

However, Lewis Hamilton opted to forge his own path during the floodlit event. The seven-time world champion brazenly chose to override the pit wall instructions and stayed out on the track. The ultimate consequence was severe: as his tires rapidly degraded, the veteran British driver became an easy target for competitors, ultimately crossing the finish line in a disappointing sixth place.

Following the conclusion of the grueling night race, Hamilton openly confessed to his miscalculation and offered a respectful apology to the entire team. Despite showing accountability after the checkered flag, the Ferrari superstar faced intense criticism from pundits and fans alike for his stubbornness on the asphalt, including stinging remarks from former F1 driver and respected broadcaster Martin Brundle.

Analyzing the race, the 67-year-old expert noted that Hamilton started on a fresh set of medium tires but struggled with pace as the laps ticked down. Brundle pointed out that while the Briton initially seemed committed to a standard two-stop strategy by pitting for softs on lap 18, things took a bizarre turn when he refused to take advantage of a cheap pit stop during the VSC caused by Lance Stroll's stranded Aston Martin.

Brundle emphasized that committing to a grueling 44-lap stint on a single set of decaying tires was entirely Hamilton's unilateral decision. Concluding his post-race analysis, the veteran pundit stressed that trying to pilot a hyper-complex modern Formula 1 machine while simultaneously acting as the team's chief strategist from behind the steering wheel simply does not work.
