Martin Extends MotoGP Lead to 17 Points After Silverstone Sprint Win

Jorge Martin put on a masterclass at the Silverstone Sprint, holding off Ai Ogura to take victory and stretch his MotoGP championship lead to 17 points.

The Sprint was a tense affair from the lights out, with Martin leading from the front while Ogura lurked just behind. But Martin's pace was relentless, and he crossed the line first, with Ogura settling for second.

Behind them, Marco Bezzecchi took third, moving up to third in the standings and leapfrogging Marc Marquez, who struggled to ninth with grip issues. The reigning champion now trails by 29 points.

With the result, only Martin and Ogura can mathematically lead the championship after Sunday's Grand Prix. Fabio di Giannantonio, who was within 24 points before the Sprint, now sits 31 points adrift.

The Sprint was a blow for Marquez, who had been tipped as a favorite. His grip problems cost him dearly, and Ducati Lenovo has work to do ahead of the main race.

Aprilia dominance is clear in the standings: Martin leads with 220 points, Ogura has 203, and Bezzecchi 193. The title fight is heating up, with only two riders in mathematical contention after Sunday.
