WRC, Sportrik Media - Sebastien Ogier has suggested that an important decision regarding the remainder of his 2026 WRC programme has already been made following victory at the Acropolis Rally Greece. The result placed the Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT driver firmly back into world championship contention.

Ogier’s points haul in Greece significantly reduced his deficit to championship leader and team-mate Elfyn Evans. The result arrived before the fast gravel rallies of the summer, where road order and the different surface characteristics could again alter the balance of the title fight.

Ogier has competed on a part-time programme for several seasons while continuing to challenge for victories and WRC titles. His ninth championship last season moved him level with Sebastien Loeb at the top of the all-time list.

“At the beginning of the season, my goal was to try to fight for the championship. We had the speed, but we weren’t able to convert it into enough championship points, and the gap to Elfyn started to become quite significant,” Ogier said.

Ogier acknowledged that Rally Greece represented a decisive point for his title prospects. A poor result could have forced him to reduce his championship ambitions, but victory and a substantial points return created a far more favourable position.

“I knew that if the weekend didn’t go our way, we would probably have had to start giving up on the championship. Instead, we came away with a lot of points, which is obviously very positive for us,” he said.

Ogier has already been confirmed for the Rally Estonia in mid-July. However, when asked whether he would contest every remaining round, the Frenchman stopped short of directly confirming an expansion of his part-time schedule.

“I think we’ll be able to tell you soon. Some of the decisions had actually already been made before this weekend,” Ogier said.

The comment indicates that Toyota and Ogier had determined the direction of his programme before the victory in Greece, although the final details have not yet been announced. With his title opportunity revived, the number of remaining rallies he contests could become a decisive factor in the championship battle against Evans during the final phase of the 2026 season.
