Sebastien Loeb Explains Reasoning Behind 2027 Rally1 Test

World rally legend Sebastien Loeb has revealed that geography and pure curiosity drove his decision to test the 2027 Project Rally One Rally1 asphalt-specification car in the Vosges region on Friday. The nine-time world champion took the opportunity to sample the new machinery close to his home.

According to DirtFish, the test came together smoothly because Lionel Hansen—whom Loeb previously partnered with in a Porsche GT3 rally—was operating nearby. The proximity offered the perfect window for the French maestro to discover a brand new machine and understand the evolution of current WRC technology.

Reflecting on the unexpected running, Loeb noted that he simply wanted to experience how the new Rally1 platform behaves compared to older generation cars. He completed several smooth runs around the asphalt stages, confirming that the handling felt quite acceptable despite a noticeable difference in raw power output.

"I'm spending some time in the Vosges and it's the place where they test the Rally1. It was just an opportunity because I know Lionel Hansen from the previous rally we did with the Porsche GT3," Loeb told DirtFish regarding the informal test session.

He further elaborated on the driving dynamics: "He was not far from my house and it's always nice to discover a new car. I wanted to know a bit how is the new WRC and that was the opportunity to test it. I did a few runs with the car. It was going quite well, for sure. It's not the same power of the Fiesta I drove in the Rallye des Vosges a few months ago, but the feeling was quite OK."

Despite sparking intense paddock discussions regarding a potential comeback, Loeb was quick to shut down any rumors of a competitive return to the championship anytime soon. Addressing the inevitable question about entering upcoming events, the Dacia-contracted driver firmly stated that fans should not expect to see him competing in Monte Carlo.
