Sami Pajari Reveals Bold Strategy at WRC Greece 2026

Sami Pajari revealed the aggressive strategy that helped him secure fifth place at WRC Greece 2026, delivering a strong finish and valuable points on Super Sunday.

The Toyota Gazoo Racing driver started Sunday in sixth overall before climbing to fifth by the finish. He also claimed second in the Super Sunday classification and set the second-fastest time on the rally-ending Power Stage.

"Considering the conditions, I think we have to be fairly satisfied with the last two days. We managed to maximise what was realistically possible," Pajari said.

Pajari explained that he deliberately adopted an all-out approach for the final day. With a podium no longer within reach, the team used the opportunity to practise an aggressive Sunday strategy while targeting additional championship points.

"We talked about the fact that you need to be able to perform on Sundays even when you're fighting at the front of the rally. This was a good opportunity to practise that. Finishing sixth wouldn't really have satisfied us, so we went all out for the Super Sunday points. Thankfully we did, because we also managed to take points away from Adrien Fourmaux," he said.

The strategy paid off as Pajari improved to fifth overall and eventually finished just 6.7 seconds behind fourth place after trailing Josh McErlean by more than one and a half minutes at the end of Saturday.

Almost every Rally1 driver suffered tyre damage during the weekend, but Pajari stressed that punctures were not solely determined by driving style. He pointed to rally winner Sebastien Ogier as an example, noting that tyre failures can happen almost anywhere regardless of pace.
