After months of speculation, Carlos Sainz has finally put an end to the rumors. The Spanish driver has committed his future to Williams with a multi-year contract, silencing talk of a potential move to Audi.

The decision comes as a major boost for the Grove-based squad, which has struggled in 2026 after a surprisingly strong 2025 campaign that saw them finish fifth in the Constructors' Championship with two podiums. This year, however, they have been stuck at the back of the grid.

Speculation had linked Sainz with a sensational u-turn to Audi, the team he turned down to join Williams. But today's official announcement from Williams confirms that Team Principal James Vowles has managed to retain one of the most experienced and consistent drivers on the grid.

In his statement, Sainz expressed his faith in Williams' long-term project. “I’m thrilled to announce my continued journey with the Atlassian Williams F1 Team family! I truly believe in the people that form this team, both at the factory and at the racetracks, and the investments and hard work that are happening in the background,” he said.

“We have what it takes to turn this around together. I’m as committed as I was on day one to helping get Williams back to where it belongs,” added the 31-year-old. This vote of confidence is crucial for Vowles, who has faced scrutiny over the team's performance dip.

Vowles praised Sainz's dedication, stating, “From the moment he joined, Carlos’ talent behind the steering wheel and dedication back at the factory have been extremely valuable for this project – working day in, day out with his engineers to find every millisecond.” He also emphasized that Sainz is a leader and shares the same ambition to restore Williams to the front.

Sainz's extension is the second piece of good news in as many days for Williams, following Alex Albon's contract renewal. With a strong driver line-up secured, Williams will look to kickstart their season turnaround at this weekend's Dutch Grand Prix.
