Two veteran Spanish drivers, Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso, will start the Dutch Grand Prix Sprint from the pit lane after their teams made major set-up changes. The decision comes after a disappointing Sprint Shootout on Friday, where both failed to advance beyond SQ1.
Alonso finished last (22nd), half a second behind Sergio Perez in 21st, while Sainz narrowly missed out on progressing, qualifying 18th. These poor results prompted Aston Martin and Williams to make overnight changes to their cars in search of better performance for the Sprint race.
Starting from the pit lane means both teams will treat the Sprint as a data-gathering exercise, aiming to improve their pace for the rest of the weekend. However, there is good news from the Aston Martin camp: the issue Alonso faced with his AMR26 in straight-line mode during qualifying has been resolved. The Silverstone-based team believes the set-up changes have addressed the problem.

This comes at a crucial weekend for Aston Martin and Honda. Honda has introduced a significant engine upgrade to help the struggling team. The new power unit is expected to give Alonso and teammate Lance Stroll a boost, moving them closer to the intense midfield battle.
It's a mental test for both drivers, especially Alonso, who is still chasing his first points of the season. But with promising set-up changes, they might just surprise at Zandvoort.
