Fierce action immediately unfolded under the Marina Bay lights as George Russell stormed to the top of the timesheets in the opening practice session. Driving the Mercedes W17 utilizing the previous specification he used to win in Azerbaijan, the British driver set a blistering lap time of 1m32.274s during the closing stages of the hour.
Drivers wasted no time heading onto the circuit with only one practice session available before sprint qualifying, with almost the entire field starting on hard tyres. The opening minutes saw immediate braking struggles, with Lando Norris locking up multiple times and Lance Stroll running wide at Turn 1, while Isack Hadjar complained about heavy bottoming under braking in his Red Bull.

As track evolution improved rapidly, the benchmark times plummeted. The top spot exchanged hands between Norris, Charles Leclerc, and championship leader Kimi Antonelli. Russell initially took command before Antonelli responded. However, the championship leader's session was compromised late on when he abandoned a faster lap after running off-circuit at Turn 17, ultimately ending up seventh overall without having fitted the soft compound tyres.

Entering the final quarter, teams bolted on soft rubber for qualifying simulations. Leclerc overcame traffic from an Aston Martin to climb to second, while Lewis Hamilton briefly went fastest for Ferrari. Russell then delivered the decisive blow, lowering the benchmark to 1m32.274s to finish 0.198s clear of Leclerc at the chequered flag.
Norris secured third place just 0.075s behind Leclerc, with Hamilton fourth and Oscar Piastri rounding out the top five separated by a mere half-second. Max Verstappen settled for sixth after exclusively setting his fastest times on medium tyres, amidst minor radio communication hurdles inside the Red Bull garage.
