Nico Rosberg, the 2016 Formula 1 champion, has issued a stark warning to championship leader Kimi Antonelli. He believes the Mercedes driver will face a growing psychological battle as he chases his maiden title.
Speaking to Sky Sports F1 ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix, Rosberg drew on his own title-winning experience to explain the mental toll Antonelli could encounter. Antonelli has impressed in his second F1 season, becoming the youngest driver to lead the championship, but Rosberg cautioned that pressure will inevitably mount as the reality of a title shot sets in.
"Antonelli has driven so incredibly well," Rosberg said. "It's a world-class level. It's amazing. It's his second year in F1, unbelievable." Despite the praise, he stressed that intrusive thoughts can derail a campaign. "However, he's only human. Anybody in his situation, as the season goes on, you start to reflect 'my goodness, my dream is within reach' and the demons in your head tell you 'you better not mess this up, it's yours to lose' and that repeats and gets louder and louder."

Rosberg, who retired days after beating Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton to the 2016 title, admitted the pressure left him unable to extract maximum performance. "Once you think about those things, it takes capacity away from your ability to drive at 100%," he added. "I went through that big time, and that's why in the last four races, there was no chance for me to do a pole or win. My brain was fried."
Antonelli currently leads the drivers' standings with 224 points, ahead of Hamilton (171) and George Russell (168). Rosberg's warning serves as a reminder that the title fight is as much a mental battle as a physical one.
