A flock of rogue ducks on the circuit unexpectedly triggered a dramatic incident involving Supercars champions, after James Courtney slammed into the rear of Mark Winterbottom's car. This unique yet tense event unfolded when the session was forced to be neutralized due to the presence of wildlife on the track.
The incident originated midway down the Conrod Straight when Mark Winterbottom, driving the Tickford Ford Mustang, abruptly had to slow his pace. This drastic reduction in speed was executed purely to comply with safety procedures following the deployment of double-waved yellow flags along that specific sector.
Unfortunately for James Courtney, who was piloting the Team 18 Chevrolet Camaro, he approached from behind at full speed and did not anticipate his fellow champion braking so suddenly. A heavy collision became unavoidable, leaving both vehicles with significant damage to their bodywork and aerodynamic components.

Race control, monitoring the emergency situation, immediately made the firm decision to deploy a red flag to safely clear the wildlife and remove the debris from the track. Both drivers were ultimately forced to drive their battered machines back to the pit lane for emergency repairs by their mechanics, leaving their bemused co-drivers to explain the surreal scenario.
Mark Winterbottom delivered a dead-panned reaction regarding the bizarre incident involving fellow broadcast commentators. As reported by Speedcafe, he emphasized that he had acted correctly by strictly adhering to the double yellow flag regulations on track.
"How funny, the two commentary blokes crashing into each other," Winterbottom stated. "Obviously double waved yellow, I backed off there and he's hit me full noise. It's done a fair bit of damage. You're not sure if a kangaroo is going to jump out, there's limited commsg He hit me hard so we've both got damage."
Meanwhile, James Courtney offered his perspective on the split-second reflex behind the wheel when the incident erupted unexpectedly. According to television replays, his team had actually issued a radio warning regarding animals on the circuit, but the situation on track unfolded far too quickly.
"It was strange," Courtney said. "We just started going so I got up it, Mark and I are going, and then all of a sudden he jumped on the brake halfway down the straight. It was either the wall or the back of him. It's something I wasn't anticipating to happen, so pretty surprising."
